Sincerely, I don't even know what was happening, so I can't even put a word to what was happening. Anyway, during that period, I was not in a good place with my mom. Only first daughters can actually understand it—there's a stage in your life where you and your mom will be back-to-back because you're trying to prove that you are now a woman, and your mom is trying to prove that you're still a child.
So that's the stage I was in. On that particular day, my mom and I had just finished having an argument, so I was on my phone when this particular guy texted me. This guy and I had gone out like three times before. He texted me, and I was like, "I actually want to go and lodge tonight; this house is tiring me out." He said that was nice because he was also free, and I told him I couldn't lodge with him in a hotel—I needed to be alone. He agreed, saying he had to go back to his wife. The plan was to have drinks and food throughout the evening to while away the time before he eventually lodged me in the hotel.
The first hotel we got to was a very big, fancy five-star hotel. Even though he was paying, I thought to myself that my VEX money (emergency money) couldn't cover the price of these rooms. We went to the lounge, met a couple of his friends, drank, and then one of his friends followed us to another hotel. I assumed he just wanted to give his friend a lift and drop him off, but the friend followed us all the way to the hotel. I thought maybe the friend wanted to have a drink with us in the room.
At the reception, the man paid for the room, and I pretended I could pay too, but he insisted on paying. We got into the room, and I offloaded my toothbrush and other stuff in the bathroom while they drank in the room. I joined them, and after two or three hours, I was exhausted and wanted to sleep. I wondered why they hadn't left.
The friend then said to the man, "She no go, she no go," and I started to get really worried. The friend told me to take off my clothes. I said no, reminding the man of the plan for him to go back to his wife. At this point in my life, I was very serious about maintaining my virginity, and I was ready to fight to protect it.
I decided to book my own room, but when I went to pack my things from the bathroom, the friend stood in front of the door, blocking my way. The man came up behind me and said, "Don't let me down now." He then grabbed my skirt and pulled it down, revealing the multiple waist beads I was wearing. The sight of the beads scared him, and he muttered something about me being a "bungee."
Realizing his fear, I acted possessed, invoking my mother's spirit and displaying erratic behavior. The friend seemed unsure, and the man was scared. Meanwhile, the receptionist knocked on the door, asking if everything was alright. I screamed for help, and when she tried to push the door open, they shoved her back. She called for security, who arrived with other staff members and demanded the men leave the room.
Eventually, they packed up and left as the manager arrived with the police. The receptionist came in, shocked by what had happened. I realized how close I had come to a terrible fate. The manager insisted I file a police report, which I did.
Moral of the Story: No matter how bad things get at home, running away can lead to dangerous situations. Always ensure you have a safe backup plan and never underestimate the value of family, even during tough times.
